The start of a new still life. This is a composition I've been wanting to do for a while with mixed results. Using this green ceramic vase I start out with a rough drawing in the first stage. I then block in general values. After the block in, I like to chisel away at the drawing pushing and pulling paint around until everything is in the right spot. The final stage is narrowing the colors down more to establish some sort of color harmony. Throughout the process I'm looking at the set up for anything that jumps out at me stylistically. I don't like to paint the exact colors but use the still life as a sort of "guide" for how the light is interacting with the objects. My aim for this painting is a green analogous color scheme. I really like the color green, probably too much.
